Cockroaches are thought to be pests and dirty creatures. Roaches are also remarkable in their ability to survive and adapt to different areas. Cockroaches have been found in deserts and even in some parts of the artic.
Here are some Facts about Cockroaches
- Cockroaches have white blood instead of red blood
- Female cockroaches only need to mate once and then they can lay eggs for the rest of their life.
- A cockroach can only live one week without water, but a full month without food.
- A cockroach can live without their heads for almost a week until they die from dehydration.
- Roaches leave behind a pheromone that attracts other cockroaches to that area.
- Roaches can hold their breath underwater for up to 40 minutes.
- Roaches use their feelers as nose\’s
- After a cockroach sheds its skin it is white with black eyes until it can grow back its skin.
- American cockroaches can run up to 3 miles per hour
- Some people develop allergies to cockroaches including skin rashes, and respiratory problems.
- The largest cockroach was 6inches long and weighed 50 grams.
- German roaches lay an egg sac a month that contains up to 40 young.
- Roaches are omnivorous scavengers that will eat both meat and plant material.
- There are over 5000 different cockroach species found throughout the world
The cockroaches produce a very unpleasant odor, and can carry diseases such as salmonella, dysentery, gastro-enteritis and typhoid. Check your cabinets on regular interval for any signs of roach infestation.
When an infestation is found, it has to be removed immediately for health reasons. An infestation can be difficult to control on your own, as most of the over-the-counter products are not effective. If necessary, call an exterminator to get rid of cockroach infestation.
